2013 Strongman Resolutions
It's that time of year again when gym become over-burdened with resolutionists who will drift off never to return to the gym in only a matter of weeks. If you're reading this though, you're probably not one of those people. Unlike most resolution blog posts where the goals are often something foreign to blogger that will totally makeover their life, I will simply use this medium to formally list my goals and aspirations for the new year, building on what I've already been striving towards as a strongman.
2013: Year of The Strongman
Training-I've been competing in strongman for a year and a half now and have made tremendous progress. This year I want to continue on the same path and continue moving up and up. My training hasn't really been focused directly on strongman before and getting better at the lifts that will help me overall while improving on my weaknesses, so one of the things I will be starting the year off with is a training program that will be much more tailored to strongman. I am making a move to a new gym and am hoping that the equipment there will be just as suitable to my needs, if not more. I also aim to rehab my knee so that it doesn't cause me as much of a problem as it currently does in training and competing.
Competing- Competition season in Ontario can range from April/May to September/mid-October. My goal is to kick the season off as soon as possible and average a competition each month, if time and costs permit so. Also, depending on my progress from now until the end of the season, I will try to enter into some of the more advanced amateur strongman competitions in Ontario.
Eating- This topic may be the most relevant to my endeavors as a strongman! My goal is to maintain my current weight for a couple of months or slowly gain while recomposing to as much muscle as possible. As a strongman I am still filling out my frame and it does take an enormous body weight in order to handle, as safe as possible, the weight of the implements we face.
My other goal with eating and food that must be addressed has to do with a sensitivity I've been experiencing to dairy and wheat. For some unknown reason I've developed an overgrowth of Candida albicans in my intestines, which causes a lot of nasty problems! So it is necessary for me to really clean up my diet.
If you really want to achieve a particular goal it doesn't matter what time of the year it is, but there is a different energy in the air this time of year when everybody else is also more in tune with what changes they want to see in their own lives.
