You Lose The Game When You Lose Yourself

Simon Sinek’s newest book, The Infinite Game is about business and leadership that challenges the status quo of financial markers dictating the success of a business. The game of business is an infinite game; there is no finish line or fourth quarter. Any of the commonly thrown around concepts of success in business are not universally agreed upon and therefore are meaningless. Simon Sinek’s previous books were about finding your “Why.” In an Infinite Game, you must find a “Just Cause” to keep you (or your business) playing infinitely.

You lose the game when you lose yourself.

In combat sports, the game is finite. You either survive to the final bell or you suffer the finality of being knocked out or submitted. These are the agreed-upon rules of winning and losing. And while there’s a scorecard the judges go by to determine who wins or who loses the fight, you lose the game when you lose yourself. A fighter’s most powerful asset in the ring is his or her unique combination of technical skills and creativity.

Listen to this week’s FlowCast as Mike Doherty returns from the WAKO K1 World Amateur Championships and shares his story of losing himself to the fight game. This episode is a heavy hitter on the secrets of success.
